I live about 10 miles from Meadowhall, and before you think about a house I would suggest you post the area up you are thinking about. Honestly, there are some really bad parts

Keep away from Tinsley & Grimesthorpe especially

I wouldnt worry about a small commute either, its very accessible and traffic isnt too bad.

I would be looking at the areas I have put on this map

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ms...31822,0.676346

Wish you luck on your travels.

Simon
Thanks Simon for your help

The houses that i am considering are located at Keepers Close, Sheffield, S5, and Malton St Sheffield, S4, and the other has already been rented by other person..

here is a link http://mapsengine.google.com/map/vie...k.kjLfQqgHjA1o

A small commute for me is ok, or a bit longer I don't mind, the problem is that I don't know if the zone is god or not, so your help is precious!

I will search on that zone that you indicate to me, I will see if there are a house that's suits to me...

Thanks

Oh Simon.... I do hope we don't have any members in Tinsley or Grimesthorpe

Unless you had another reason... such as extremely heavy rainfall averages?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Some other things you need to consider are:

Council tax
TV license
Water
Gas & Electricity

I know these are simple things, but I know different countries work in different ways.

You NEED to pay council tax - the bigger the house, the higher the cost.

You NEED a TV license, unless you are not having a TV!

Water can be in 2 forms. The house could have a meter, so you pay for what you use. If not, it's a standard rate for the size/area of the house.

Also, car insurance is on a person-car basis. I know in some EU countries it's the car that needs insuring and anybody can drive. Not in the UK - each person must be named on the policy.

Your car will also need road tax.

Sorry if these sound simple, but sometimes it's the simple things people miss when moving country.

and don't forget, you pay for the water you take from the tap, then pay again for waste water, including rain, to be taken away, so double bill that is not optional !

Without trying to confuse the OP, this isn't true. you only need a licence to watch broadcasts - you can own a TV and not be required to pay for a pedo.... I mean TV licence

I dont know if i will need to have a TV licence, because i want to put cable tv and internet, so i dont know if that licece will be apply for it too, in Portugal we pay too a kind of TV licence even if you dont have a TV you will need to pay it on the electricity bill

Will be returning to Portugal tomorrow, and in the Sunday i will be driving to the UK with my Zed, the next days will be a little exhausting

One thing that i am loving from staying here and dealing with the UK legal needs and lifestyle, is how kind the people are on here, i have talked with so many person asking for help or for some indications and they are very helpful and friendly
