When i lived in Coalburn [south Lanarkshire] i had a 60 mile daily round trip to work in Glasgow .

I did it for 18 years and never minded as the peace of the country was worth it.

I now have a 2 mile round trip as i moved back to Glasgow .
To be honest having the two 75s i owned in the bulk of that period made the journeys a pleasure.

27 miles each way.

if I was 9-5 it would take around 1.5 hours each way, on shifts so it takes me approx. 45 mins

Before I got made redundant last year, my commute was 25 miles each way. To avoid the congestion in the middle of town (Boston) I went via back roads, which made the journey slightly longer but more bearable. I also car shared, which halved the amount of time driving/amount of fuel used. Took around an hour from leaving the house to sitting at my desk and vice versa. As above, add this up and you're on 10 hours a week so over the twenty years I did it, well over one year of solid travelling! I don't miss it!

My question.... Is this too far? How far do you travel each day? Anything that needs to be taken into consideration?
I would stay as close to work as possible if I was you! I did this about 7 years ago, changing jobs and moving close when we traded up our house, for seeing the ever increasing petrol price increases and the time and frustration taken up every day commuting.

I went from a 30 mile commute which could take anywhere between 45 minutes and an hour and a half, to a 2 mile commute which I either walk or cycle.

I have saved 2 hours a day average in time and a huge amount in vehicle costs.

It enabled me to get the V8 and not be dependant on fuel prices as I don't need to drive day to day, where as before I had to spend a lot on fuel and have a decent car too which wasn't cheap!

Now the time I save makes a massive difference to my life and general enjoyment of life and I can drive for 'fun' i.e. in the middle of the night if I get the urge!

Petrol isn't going to get cheaper!

I used to travel from Aberdeen to Motherwell every week. Thankfully company paid the fuel and hotel bill but got to the stage I said no more and left. Draining.

Mine is 34 miles round trip.

I pass (in total) 6 schools, 6 roundabouts, 32 sets of traffic lights, 4 pedestrian crossings, 2 speed cameras.

I work permanent nights (21:00-09:00). Going to work takes 25 mins. Coming home takes on average 40 mins.

I could work closer to home, but it's better for me in a way I work as far away as possible.

Mine used to be 97 miles each way but worked from home 3 days a week. Now it's 16 each way and no working from home.
