Default Fines for Holidays in Term Time

Doncaster Mum starts a petition to reverse the introduction of fines for taking kids out of school for a holiday.

http://www.doncasterfreepress.co.uk/...ules-1-5716213

Personally, I think it stinks how we just accept the price rises when school is out.

If you agree with her proposal, sign the E-petition here http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/49640

do they honestly think a £60 quid fine is going to have an effect when the difference in holiday prices runs into many hundreds?

I'm sorry you decide to have children like me then you take them on holidays out of trem time like I had to do.

So you put yourself first rather than your childrens future?

I'm not interested in justifying my personal position to others, the link is there to sign if you agree, or not if you dont.

And anyway, it's got nowt to do with a deterrent effect on taking children out of school in term time (will parents of truant children be pursued as well?).

It's about revenue raising opportunities and is indicative of a massive grab on the road to privatisation of public service assets. Once upon a time you could not be 'fined' other than following a court case after an offence had been committed and a summons issued. We are returning to medieval remedies so don't nick a doughnut.

Default holiday firms

Personally ,and not wanting to get into a debate, I think the petition should be against the holiday / travel firms who balloon price in the school holiday periods....the schools are just as much a victim as the families.rightly or wrongly they are having to try and keep up attendances by introducing the fines...do not think for 1 minute the schools really wanted to do this...the government should look into holiday firms the same way they look into gas / electric and phone companies and clamp down on the racket.,..rant over

a quick search reveals the following

£640 per person During term time http://tinyurl.com/pejgzs8

£827 per person During school holidays http://tinyurl.com/o33hgr6

so still massively cheaper to pay the fine

Id actually also love to see a petition where we can Fine schools who close as and when it suits them... Snow less than inch, Close for safety.... heating not getting hot, close for health and safety...... Teachers blo**y training days either side of Normal Holidays.
I think its a cheek they want to fine parents for something they do to children themselves, deny them an education on a whim...... Ill be signing it, Thanks Sikelsh.
Brian.

I'm not saying it isn't, just stating its not £60, but in the majority of the real world we are talking a caravan in Devon maybe.
