Maybe the auto has better traction in snow

I'm sure others will have their own experiences.
Totally agree - mine is auto too, & it went past all the other cars that were stranded or skidding in the heavy snowfall that we had in the south a few years ago!

Not driven the CDTi much in the snow but it seemed to drive as well as anything else on normal tyres.

My rear wheel drive auto 4.0L V8 Lexus with winter tryes, on the other hand, copes with snow much better than a 4x4 on nomal tyres.

Winter tyres are the future for snow.

Ended up abandoning my conny, but managed to dig it out and get it back to my house but won't be using it again until he snow goes, not impressed. Using an old vauxhall Astra diesel workhorse to get around - we live on a steep hill, landrover got stuck by us yesterday.
Hating this snow now - the garage roof has collapsed and has wrecked the car that we are restoring

Mine was not too good in the snow last year as the pics show, I slid into a road sign, but now with good tread on the tyres it seems fine.

Most manual turbo-diesels will be a right handful in the snow, with the on/off turbo characteristics.,I''m driving around in the company Astravan Cdti and it's hopeless.First is too high, but doing teh sensible thing in pulling away in 2nd and going through the gears early si9mply means it's off boost and close to stalling all the time.
My 75 V6 auto,( with decent tyres/snow mode and the weight over the front driving wheels) is nigh on perfect for the snowy conditions had has behaved impeccably in it.

Tyres make a HUGE difference. Right now mine has BF Goodrich G-grips on the front and they are ruddy awful in the snow.

If we get a covering I'll have to whack on a pair of Crowns on the front with fairly worn 196/65 R15 Winter tyres.

Bought this set of Crowns from a breakers and they had these on. The intention is to get some new proper Winter tyres fitted for next winter.

I learnt how much difference tyre make and pattern can make when owning the Citreon BX diesels. get the wrong brand/type and it tram lined awfully and with some makes even pulling off on wet grass was impossible in the TZD.

Rear wheel drive V8 with winter tyres has been fine on snow.

Tyres do make a difference.
