Wee update on things....car started no problem this evening, anyway i managed to remove the bonnet switch and had a look at it, connections looked a wee bit dirty, so i cleaned them up with contact cleaner then carefully positioned the switch back into the slam panel then checked the bonnet/door open light and with doors/bonnet closed the light was out, came on when opening the door and out when closed, so i think i may have fixed it the now....got a replacement ordered anyway (with the rubber cover) but it was pretty straightforward as there was enough slack in the wires to remove the switch, so fitting the new one won't be an issue...
