Default Paint Estimate

I've been quoted £500.00 for a Bonnet and rear bumper repaint, having no experience of getting things like this done, I would value anyone's opinion on the quote.

Sounds reasonable, 300-350 for a good bonnet respray and 150-200 for a bumper is fair for a good job.

About ten years ago, I was told, as a rule of.thumb, 200 pounds per panel would be expected, in a repair shop.the bumpers were considered to be the same.

Having prepped and painted my front.bumper (badly), I would pay it. paint cost me.for hardener, paint and lacquer was something like £60, or £70. Then primer, a cheap gun, and consumables, then polish at the end of it too

Time and lack of confidence in my ability (ie no warranty) - at least the cost of the materials?

It worked, looked well for a year or so......

I can say I have done it (which was my goal) I know where I went wrong now and am.happy to pay someone now to do it correctly lol.

sent from my iToilet Pro 3□

You're lucky to get a quick slot. My man is always booking 3+ months ahead. Btw, he charged £375 for the bonnet and rear bumper of my Tourer (non - metallic Damson) 18 months ago.

I've got laquer coat peeling off on my roof Anyone got likely prices for this repair job ie a whole roof respray ? I am guessing it would not be possible to rub down the laquer without damaging the basecoat ? I am pondering having a go myself as I have done a few bumpers and wings in my time , but could equally leave it to the pros !

It would be wise to ask if they use the original paint colour or if they will use special colour reading equipment to "read" the existing colour of the car, and create that paint. Fresh original paint will in most cases be a bit different compared to the original one, due to aging of the paint. You could ask how they assure you will not see any colour difference. There a proper spray techniques to avoid colour differences etc., but better asked up front than later complaining.

i was quoted £325 to repair a 12" scratch the missus managed to put in the rear door of her Mazda 2 when exiting the driveway. To get an idea of the magnitude of the scratch, it looked like it had been keyed. Wouldn't polish out - sadly.

My local Motor Factors where I buy paint in Derby offer a paint matching service. If you take in a reasonably small painted panel they use something called a Spectrophotometer that will give them the information to accurately mix paint to the colour on the panel.

I've used this service for a number of paint jobs on resto's and it's spot on.

Default Price is not always the best guide

Hi,
I would want to know more about the paint and how it’s applied. My Gold Tourer needed a repair and the sprayer used a brand called 3M a high quality paint .He also prepared using 3M supplied kit. 3M is a premium high quality product. The paint on my car also has a pearlescent finish which he picked up on so it’s not just gold. Price is not always the best guide to obtaining a great result .

I believe our cars have the paint code somewhere . Possibly on the door frame 3 or 4 letters and or numbers ?
