V6 no starter motor.
Afternoon all.
Could anyone help at all please? Drove the project car up to have all 4 wheels aligned this morning. I've been running the car all week with no issues. Paid the bill, got in the car to drive away, ignition to position 1, all fine, position 2 . . .nothing. Fuel pump primes, but no starter motor at all. I checked the main fuses in the engine bay, I've stripped the starter down and rubbed down the contacts. Changed the yellow relays over. I'm stuck. Car bump starts no problem at all and runs fine. Starter motor not activated by ignition. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Ben. |

Assuming the battery is okay, the very first thing I would do Ben is to check the ignition feed on the small wire to the solenoid.
Disconnect wire & have someone turn the key to the start position & check for power either via test light or multimeter. If you have a feed, then It's more than likely the contacts are worn down in the solenoid (the most common problem on these starters). I've never found cleaning to be of any use as the copper contacts actually wear down. Thanks for your reply Mike.
I'll try that. If there is feed, I'll try changing over the starter with my other V6. Handy having two cars the same, just would be nice if one was working for more than a week at a time. |

There is 12V when turned to position 3, so will try changing over motors.
Just changed starter motors, and no difference. Last edited by Typhoon190; 16th June 2018 at 18:27.. |

Tried the starter motor originally on the project car on Typhoon, and that's fine.
There is 12 volts on the small lead (push terminal connector) when removed from the starter at position 3. When I connect it to the starter, there's no voltage at position 3. Last edited by Typhoon190; 16th June 2018 at 17:09.. |

If there is no voltage present when you check with an assistant to turn the key, then it's odds on a fault with the EWS. Let us know the outcome, if you find it's an EWS fault, them I can sort that out for you easily enough Ben Brian |

There is voltage when termianl not connected to starter. No voltage when terminal connected to starter. Would an EWS fault show no voltage in both checks? I did try removing the back of the key with the transponder, and that immediately showed 'Engine disabled' on the message centre. Thanks. Last edited by Typhoon190; 16th June 2018 at 17:14.. |

Have you tried cleaning up the connections? I remember my first v6 years ago had this, the car just clicked when I turned the key.
