Default Where IS emergency boot release exactly?

Can anyone tell me where exactly the emergency release is in the boot on a facelift ZT saloon. Bear in mind I will be fumbling in the dark so it would help if you could tell me which side it is. The solenoid is clicking but it’s not popping up. Once I’ve got it open I’m hoping it might be a straightforward fix but perhaps someone on here has experienced it.

It's mounted in the boot lid liner, RHS rear corner (the one at top right when the lid's open)...

To gain access you have to drop down the RHS rear seat back and reach through to the far LH corner (as you look into the boot). Lever out the plastic handle and pull on it.

You obviously don't have a Handbook. You can download one here: http://storm.oldcarmanualproject.com...nersmanual.pdf

It's the 1999 edition, but largely OK for the facelifts.

If it's "clicking" the rubber stops may need winding out a bit

It's not "machine gunning" Ronnie, the boot release solenoid is making a single thud when the button is pressed as you would expect but it's not opening the boot

And I the even simpler ones.

But... I had to tie the boot partially open when I bought a big telly at Christmas, and used a bit of rope from the catch in the lid to the static one on the car.

Ever since then, it thumped very loudly when activated, and didn't always close properly when slammed down. So I lowered (rather than raised for machine-gunning) the stops ¼ turn, and it seems much better now...

I've always scratched my head on this subject regarding boot release. I cannot find any emergency release on my car and the boot catch is electric operation only. Is there any way of opening manually in the event of solenoid/battery failure?
Mrs Rovertone's Rover 25 is the same and on that model the catches to unlock the seat backs are boot side!
