Blue smoke
Hi all, need some help please.
My CDT is a little smokey on starting and accelerating. It also smells acrid. Did a leak back test which is inconclusive. I have a Pierburg UB pump which is gurgling and noisy. Would the UB pump cause the smoke?. She runs and starts fine and only cut out when the tank went below 1/4 full. |

Blue smoke tends to be oil, has the engine breather been serviced at all?

If its burning oil the level will drop. In general terms could be valve seals or turbo seal but I am not too knowledgeable with the rest of the engine, as I had no issues with mine!

Would that not be the cause of black smoke? Still a cheap elimination I guess. So its nothing to do with pump and injectors. Mechanic wanted to replace both pumps and send off injectors for testing etc...£650 without being sure it would solve the problem!

But...
If it smokes at all it will fail the MOT now, any visible smoke of any colour is a fail.

Would be a cheap fix if it was the o rings, wouldn't of thought pump or injectors failing that could be the turbo seals letting oil in not had to mess with a turbo on these so unknown territory.

Acrid smelling smoke can be unburnt diesel. Try adding a dose of injector cleaner to the tank - Forte comes well recommended.
