Only Curious! Nothing Sinister!
I saw a Police "fly-on-the-wall" program this week and it was second time this week I came across the term "The Dark Web"
I know what this is but being a nosy old NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-, I`m wondering if it is against the law to search for it and maybe view it if able to get on?? I am only curious and also know what curiosity can do I certainly don`t want to get nicked if it`s illegal. Ken. |

Go to www.torproject.org and read everything carefully. That's a handy starting point.
I accept no responsibility etc etc If you are comfortable with dealing with every page containing malware and viruses while you browse then go for it

I have the Tor browser but don`t fancy having to disinfect my PC. Curiosity abated What I saw on the TV program though, the Cop had a page up and there...openly were Bank Cards for sale....if it is so open, I can`t understand why they cannot be traced and stopped..... ...I had best stop harping on or peeps will think I`m up to no good, which I am not <<< That don`t read right lol...I am not up to mischief. Ken. EDIT: To make a point more clear. |

You access via a VPN (Virtual Private Network). Every time you log on the I.P is different so tracing it is pretty pointless.
The police get the info they require then reboot. The PC they are using reformats itself upon reboot so the viruses etc are deleted every time. Really not worth playing about with but it is surprisingly easy. The software that reformats is called Norton Ghost. It is used by network engineers regularly to provide users with a fresh system rather than using too much time sorting through issues. I used to be one said engineer. You need the training to be able to do it safely. Intelligence agencies will flag you if you go there often enough. All good fun

The dark web is not illegal, in fact the whole thing was set up with legitimate reasoning and use behind it. The TOR project is the public face of the dark web and it was initially set up by US intelligence agencies for people in 'sensitive areas' where the internet is monitored to get information out of these places undetected.
As good as the internet is, it is built around supply and demand. If someone wants something, no matter how sick and degraded it is, someone is sick enough to supply it, and the dark web has become the place to operate if you want to be under the radar. Going onto the dark web is not illegal, searching for legitimate things through there is not illegal, visiting this site is possible, it just hides your source IP address, but searching for illegal things on the dark web, through the dark web, well you're on your own with that one should you get caught.
