Well, it has not gone to plan re this switch. With the help of Allen “Ratty”, and phoned advice from Matt “Cable Tie”, we got the switch re-set. Worked for a few minutes then the hazards came on and the engine shut down. Finally Allen managed to click the switch finally home. And Banana started and ran fine.
Allen suggested we took her for a run. Put her into gear and on came the hazards and the engine shut down. So I assume the switch is naff. I’ve looked on DMGRS website but cannot see them, so I’ll take up Mickyboys offer to send me the switch.

The more I read about all the help that is given by the members on this site to other members, the more I am convinced that we are all in the right place. Well done Micky and Matt. May your cups always be full. Don’t tell Bob. He will want his full of single malt.

The saga continues ..............
......................... re the inertia switch. Everything has been ok since the switch was replaced. But we have had a a couple of related problems.
First was when I slowly drove over a sharp speed bump, the car jolted heavily on contact with the road, nothing happened straight away. But about a mile down the road the hazards came on, doors unlocked and the engine died. Coasted into the side of the road. Turned the hazards off and she restarted and ran fine. Been ok ever since till last Sunday. Staying with a friend overnight before the Stoneleigh show. We had the gale force winds along with heavy rain. Banana was sheltering against a fence. Came out early Sunday morning to start up, needed to move her to let another car take her place. Let Banana warm up as usual, as I pulled forward so the hazards came on and the doors unlocked but this time the interior lights flashed but the engine kept going. Parked up in the road whilst I waited and it done it again. Been ok ever since. Been told that the inertia switch can be bypassed, the connections can be wired directly. True? Or not? It would kind of defeat the reason why the switch is there. Any idea what is going on?

HI Robert.
When the switch was fitted was it completely secure, I presume it was as it's lasted a year. The fitting off the switch off Mick i am also presuming was just a case of removing the old one & bolting the replacement back on, or were any wires replaced due to being faulty, if so how was the connections made soldered or crimped. IF the wiring and its connecting plug were fine, could there be a break in the wiring in that area, is the plug completely secure tight in the switch no movement. Maybe try removing the plug connection and use some switch cleaner on the connection, only use switch cleaner as it should leave no residue.
