HI Gary.
I agree with Mike something is not right with your wheel alignment, or some other part maybe out of order, so worth checking some of the below out.
Worn ball joints.
Sagging springs.
A bent strut or spindle.
Out-of-position strut.
Worn out control arm bushings.

Jim,
I've just put on 2 Avons [215/55R 16] on my 75 and all well so far. A lot quieter than the Kumhos on previously which had started to split after 4/5 years and circa 10k miles of average driving...

The Avons are now made in Serbia, not Bradford on Avon, which possibly accounts for the prices coming down

If they are wearing evenly on both edges (of a single tyre) then they are under-inflated, if only one side is wearing then get the wheel alignment checked.

Lots of posts but only relevant if talking about the same make and size of tyre.---

Other comparisons really are no help at all.---

My Avons are same as above (215/55R 16) and have always worn on the outside edge at the rear, no matter what the brand, I was told that was just how the car was made!!

That's incorrect, mine did that until it was set up with 4 wheel alignment. All tyres run perfect now. It rolls easier and probably does more to the gallon.

Avon Z5 16 inch on mine at the moment. They are slightly more noisy than my 15 inch Goodyear Efficientgrip

Yes I thought about this today and know Costco do a very good tyre service. This is beginning to sway me towards their Bridgestone's. Another local tyre fitter once fitted a wheel for me without balancing it properly but Costco fitters seem trained and give honest advice without trying to flog you other stuff. It's a big plus.

On my Jag I found one front tyre scrubbed a lot of tread from one corner. I had the wheels aligned and replaced the tyre. Now all is fine and alignment from memory cost £20-25. If I had not done this a new £75 tyre would have been ruined in no time. The alignment only took 15 or 20 minutes with adjustment so this seems pricey. However they did say they would only charge me if adjustment was necessary. My advice is get it checked.
