All sorted now, but with hindsight ... I should have changed the pcv too while I was in there.
Another little job for tomorrow then.
Was going to change the fuel filter tomorrow too, is there a procedure for bleeding / purging the diesel system prior to starting or is it a self bleeding job.?
Thanks.

Just turn the ignition on until the fuel pump stops running, I do this three or four times and never had a problem.

Not on the mg but fitted some ebc ultimax2 front pads to the wife's ford today and glad to report it didn't try to kill me this time.
Waiting on a powerflex engine mount to arrive and that's the next job to do on the mg

Before refitting the fuel filter fill it up about 1 inch from the top and be careful when fitting.

Not best practise on these diesel fuel systems - it risks contamination getting in, which may not be picked up by the filter and the next stop is the HP pump and injectors.

The system is designed to be self bleeding from dry, so let it do its job.

Just make sure all pipe connections are cleaned before removing the old filter and plug or cover any open ended pipes.

I finished off the head gasket job on the white one after work tonight.

Another job off the long list!
