Default Rounded off rear brake caliper bolt.

Hi all,

The offending article is drivers side rear.

Item 11 here: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001572

Some lovely person has put it in with the strength of a gorilla . Of course, the bottom one came out OK. The top one is solid and now rounded off (13mm Halfords Professional ring spanner - unfortunately 12 point but I think most rings are?).

I can't get in with my 1/2" drive 6 point socket (or my 3/8" or my 1/4" drive sockets) - otherwise I'd have done that to start with. Too much suspension in the way .

I can't see any easy way to get at it. I've tried Mole grips which didn't work. Small Stilsons maybe? Perhaps heat the carrier but I still can't get a good purchase on the head of the bolt.

Are there any "extraction" tools in the form of a ring spanner? Or one of those that drives on the flats (Metrinch? UK stockist?)

Or is it take the whole hub off to tackle it with plenty of space and possibly a bolt extraction socket?

Help and suggestions gratefully received.

Andy.

As a last resort you may be able to lever the caliper upwards using a bottle jack on the bottom of the caliper. The lever action may free the bolt slightly.

I'm assuming you've taken the roll pins out and moved the caliper out the way? There's plenty of room then to get a 1/4" socket in then

I've got a 6 sided 1/2" AF ratchet spanner for mine. You might try a 1/2" AF 'cos it's a little tighter (12.7mm)
You could also try tapping the pad carrier with a mallet as you try to undo the bolt. Tap it one way then the other.

Did mine on the weekend nearly impossible to get a ratchet in but using these https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p63...EaAiqKEALw_wcB and a spanner over the top works a treat.

I had to buy a 13mm universal joint socket to get on the top bolt.
