To be honest, if you want a decent job it'll need re-spraying. Base coats tend to be very thin, and if you sand it to "feather in" the old clear coat, you will go through to primer in no time.

You guys are only just getting clear coat peel!!
Over here in Australia alot of the 75s are getting on in years and most now have sun damaged paint, mainly on the bonnet, roof and boot as well as top of the doors. On the up side all the 75s here are totally rust free body wise. Unfortunately, unless you are a really into these cars, most people wont spend more than the car is worth to get them re sprayed. Ive got pretty good at spraying boots etc and saved a fortune. |

You could always try to make a claim with the factory, but somehow I don't think you'd have much luck.

I had a small area flaking on my front bumper, so I picked at it until I got back to mostly not flaking lacquer. (From 1" square the area went up to 3" square before it stopped flaking. I gave it a quick clean with rubbing alcohol, then sprayed laquer onto the bare patch, which restored the colour, but left an edge. Next stage will be to rub down that edge with 1000 grit, clean again, then spray in with lacquer. After leaving it to thoroughly dry, repeat the process. After the final spray coating has dried, polish with T-Cut or clay bar to blend in with surrounding paint.
