Values and future Classic status
Yet again Honest John in the Telegraph 6/08/16 is recommending the 75 as a future classic and an investment, saying prices are on the up as they become more rare; along with, this time, the Jaguar XK Saloons coupes and convertibles and also Mercedes SL and W123 S class from 76 - 85.
Who would have thought the 75 & ZT would be competing for desirability with these; probably only those who read the forums on the Club website. So the question is, how does one value these lovely cars when many are advertised at really low prices, well apart from those from SMC @ Whitchurch ! |

In time they probably will turn the corner and prices will rise especially for those examples kept in top condition, as for now it is surprising how often you see them on the road used as the main daily runner for most.
So keep it safe and own it for a few more years yet and you never know you may recoup all the money you've spent on upgrades and accessories Provided you own a fine example

The 350 SL merc has been a classic for donkies years, Honest john needs to try to keep up!...lol..
The 75 will make it, but the Conny SE diesel auto will always be the most desirable...... ... |

Because I use mine every day of the week for 100 miles or so daily round trip, I never think of my Connie tourer as a classic, I still think she drives very much like a modern car, shows how well it was designed and built for mine 13 yrs ago.

One day it will happen but I think its a little too early yet. How the British public missed these cars is beyond me but one day in the future someone will turn around and ask. Where are the R75's and Zeds? We will just smile and open our garage doors
All you connie drivers can forget getting excited it will be the Contemporary SE's which collectors will want. Connies are ten a penny compared to these

Mines already a classic its a Rover 75 CDT Classic Tourer and there are only 160 left 142 licenced and 18 on SORN at the end of March 2016.

The difference nowadays is that the currently collectable cars such as Escorts, TR6, Imps, etc. all had a tendency to rust badly (those on here that think sill & suspension arm corrosion on 75's is a major problem should have been driving 60's & 70's cars... ) plus they weren't built particularly well, unlike the 75. They were just used, abused then taken to the scrapyard without a second thought for saving them.
Equally, we now have lots of magazines, owners clubs, forums and the internet to help provide information and parts to keep our cars on the road. As the youngest 75/ZT is now 11 years old, yet there are lots still driving around, I tend to think it'll actually be a good few years before we see any real improvement in prices due to rarity.
