Default Exhaust part fallen off? - Critical?

Found this lying in the middle of the drive today (Mrs. has taken the car to work), it appears to be part of the exhaust 'converter' assembly' according to Rimmers, taking a quick look at some pictures it appears to be a cover or shield rather then the connector itself. Is this an urgent repair / replacement or is it just want it seems a cover and o.k. to use? Is this part of the complete exhaust assembly if I pop it in to a Kwik Fit etc or is it part of the manifold etc., or could it be fixed back on?

Cheers,

ceb

It appears to be a heat shield it could be reatched with a bit of a fiddle depends how good you are at DIY
If you go to Kwik Fit they will probally try to sell you a complete new system

Yep. As it happens the rear box has just about had it so I was contemplating replacing that part ONLY but if this part is a)part of a complete exhaust and/or b)critical it may be easier just to replace the whole thing? having said that if it can be re-attached it may be easier just to get it up on the ramp at the local garage and get it re-attached, if someone can give me an idea of how it's attached?

Cheers,

ceb

My advice is this.....blame the wife for it and insist on a new stainless exhaust!

If you're thinking of replacing the rear box with new - nowadays it'll be an aftermarket unit. Be prepared for a big increase in noise and boominess! I found I couldn't live with this (I tried both the Walker and Bosal) but eventually got back the original refinement with a good second hand OEM box.

They're originally crimped together in 2 halves & tack welded on but you could probably wrap it with some large jubilee clips thus clamping the 2 parts together but it'll probably still need tacking on if it's not too rusty otherwise it'll robably rattle
