Default Traffic Master Switch Conversion

I want to install the Traffic Master into my 2004 CDTi Automatic Tourer. I have read about how it can be a nuisance in slow moving traffic and fitting an on/off switch is a good idea.

What I need to know is can a spare Cruise Control facia switch be used / converted for this purpose?

If the cruise is a standard on/off switch then I see no reason why not. However I'd just put a switch under the dash somewhere out of sight.

You can use any switch, as long as you know which pins to connect to. I fitted my switch to the green wire and put it in the centre of the switch panel (although I didn't use one of the standard switches).

You could do, but it is not a normal on/off switch, it is 'off' until you press it 'on' and will stay on until you press it again or the feed is switched off, when it will switch off and stay off until you press it again - so you would have to press it 'on' each time you want to hear it, rather than 'off' when you don't.

Terminal 1 -Ignition feed
Terminal 3 - Earth
Terminal 5 - Trafficmaster loom Green/White cable
Terminal 2 - Illumination, connect to the Red/White cable of one of the other switches

Thanks Raykay,

I will go down that route.

Many thanks

I was going to use a hazard flasher switch for my front parking sensors, but it wasn't as simple as I'd hoped, but that's another matter.

Don't try to sand the red triangle off a hazard switch! The black is painted over the red, so you just rub the black off.........

You should be OK with cruise, using the green light, but it could be that the logo is under the black, the same as the hazard.

In the end I just used a £2.49 push on/push off switch from Maplins, and fitted it in the bottom half of the steering column shroud.

Going back to Trafficmaster, I use the M25 several times a week, and have never yet wished I had added an off switch, even though I had extended the power lead so that I can add one at a later date. Don't forget, that AFAIK, you can't just switch the beep off, you switch the whole TM off.

HTH

I'm the other way. M25 is great but the Croydon part of the M23/ A23 is a nightmare and it goes off all the time every few seconds. I'll be adding a switch soon.

Resurrecting this thread...

If the beeper is in the Trafficmaster ECU, it shouldn't take long to open the casing, identify it and add a suitable modification so that the TM still works but the "soundtrack" can be silenced with a switch...

I feel a task coming on.

The beep DOES come from the ECU doesn't it?

I'm sure it does on mine. This may make it an easier mod.. And cheaper if things go wrong as SMC is selling the TM ECU's for £15..
