Did this overheating problem start just after this work was done?
I'm thinking it all sounds like another Double Thermostat situation. Have you any paperwork to tell you what thermostat was fitted? A 2004 model will likely have a PRT (Pressure Relief Thermostat), which you really must check out. If so, there will be a plastic T-Piece in the top hose from the head to the upper radiator inlet. The downpipe from the T-piece goes to the PRT, which sits in pipework near the bottom of the radiator. It's out of sight and sometimes out of mind. See diagram here: https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001582 Unfortunately some garages have never heard of a PRT and fit the standard type in the upper housing (which should be left empty). So, when the engine overheats for no apparent reason, the 'pump and thermostat fitted' comment should always rings alarm bells.
