Well I can't wait for the next breakfast meet Cliff to see the engine in the flesh and all its glory.

Photos will no doubt follow at some point, but she lives again!!

Russell was here from around 12 'till 3 to put the final bits back together and she started first spin. A bit of noise as expected from the aux belt tensioner that I had inadvertently cleaned to death, but even that has settled down now and fingers crossed it will last a while longer.

There was a bit of panic (me, not Russell) with the new clutch though. First press of the pedal and it went straight to the floor. After a bit of investigating it transpired that the quick release connector refused to stay connected and it looked like the new slave was faulty . Russell saved the day (again) by retrieving the old slave and swapping the locking collar over to the new one.

So nice to have my Baby up and running again. She now needs a good clean and a few tweaks here and there to bring her back to her best (a couple of stainless bolts got misplaced - nothing major), but the great thing is that she will be in top form for the National later this month. Oh, hang on though .....

Oh, and the knocking noise has so far not made an appearance .

If anyone needs a mobile mechanic, I'm happy to recommend Russell at MG Rover Solutions

Cliff

I hope those new cylinders and rings show you what you've been missing. I found my car to be much more responsive after they were fitted.

Just read the whole thread mate. Glad the issue is resolved. Not many of us would go that far for these cars tbh.

Looking at your car from afar I have always marvelled at your attention to detail. You must have been having a fit when the engine came out

I did laugh at your mechanic banning you from.cleaning anything that moves. So true in some instances.

Nice one, well done

Well done Cliff! Don’t worry of the mockers!

My mum used to say cleanliness is next to godliness! A nice thought for Easter!

My 2.5 V6 used to do exactly the same, knocking on a cold start but gone in minutes. Used to get to me too but I learned to live with it as she was a reliable old girl. Sold on to a new cherisher now.

Love my newer car now but boy, I wished it was another colour like yours !!

It seems that all the decent cars left out there on the market are all the boring drab colours, all the pretty ones are now all gone or tucked away!

Just a bit. Russell (the mechanic) took the block back to his place to work on, and left the heads, manifolds, loads of big metal bits (techie term!) and a mountain of bolts in my shed. I was paranoid about losing something

I should probably have also taken that route in all honesty. Russell did say the engine wasn't in any imminent danger of breaking down and the fault could safely be lived with for good few thousand miles more. Thing is though, it really got to me and I found myself losing interest in the '75 and not driving it much . All fixed now though, and I can enjoy her once again, so for me, money well spent .

Please don't consider me a "Mocker"! I am in awe of your car.
I can do mechanical work and keep my car up to a good standard cosmetically but I just don't have the patience for high-level detailing. I find myself giving my engine compartment a wipe-down and tidy but just sigh and close the bonnet when I contemplate the amount of work needed to get it up to a standard.
Mind you, I am now retired and only have so many mechanical jobs to keep me bost so you never know!

Wouldn't dream of it It's all good natured in any case, and I'm the first to admit I can go a bit overboard with the cleaning at times .

In the end, it needed one piston and 2 liners. He also fitted new main bearings and a new clutch whilst it was all apart just for good measure.

Do you know what clutch and slave cylinder he fitted?
