Well here is the result of my trial run , first off it only took about 20 mins , first I cleaned the trim with Isopropolene cleaner then brushed on some primer on the effected area's ,I had 5 piece's of chrome showing all about 4" long , then I went of each one with matt black enamel paint from Halfords then let it dry then went over the whole thing with some back to black type stuff , but looking at it again today I will go over the whole thing with the paint as it does look a little patchy , but please bear in mind it was a quick job to see if it could work with a bit more time ....
The pics could be better but the sun is shining right into the garage...

Steve, that looks a great job.
I have on mine thick paint which is cracking and flaking off at the four corners, I will not be able to paint over mine due to having to strip off the crumbling paint first, otherwise mine would have been done by now. Was yours nice and smooth to begin with? |

Thanks , I would not say smooth there is a textured feel to it , I just dont fancy spending ages masking up etc ..Hopefully when its all been painted it will look better but to be honest it looks loads better right now ...

Guys I had this problem with my ZT saloon last year. The rear screen surround was a thick textured plasticky rubbery thing that had got brittle in places and broken off. I spent a couple of hours trying to chip the rest of but some of it would not come off. I eventually compromised by getting rid of any sharp edges and then went back to black. At first I tried smooth hammerite Matt black paint but it looked to black and despite several coats didn't look great. I switched to a hammerite satin black and with three Coates it looked pretty good. Imperfections were smoothed out by applying a few coats and the colour appeared to be a slightly grey black which suited the x power grey paintwork very well. I know it was not a professional job but it looked pretty good so having noticed this thread I thought I 'd share it with you.

Plasti dip
Just repaired the same issue with about 5 coats of plastidip, and I must say it worked very well
