I'd suggest something that dries to a reasonably tough waxy coating that will withstand road debris and splashes. Something like the old favourite WaxOyl will do a reliable job. There are other much more expensive systems if you want the ultimate type of protection. Conventional greases are fine, they're basically gelled mineral oil and will eventually get washed away. But it does depend on where the parts are and what conditions they face.

Most bolts on the car have torque settings, which are specified for dry threads. I'd suggest coating them after assembly rather than before, but I can understand your reasoning.

I have been using Copper grease applied with a small brush for years. A quick smear on assembly and it will come apart so much easier next time.

Agree on the torque settings but if you use it sensibly it is not a problem.

White grease is waterproof.

Used it for 17 years during my boating days by the sea side.
