Default Stainless fusebox cover?

Hi guys

Do the stainless fusebox covers need polishing every so often? I ask as I was thinking of getting something sign written on but that wont work if I need to keep it scrubbed up!

Stainless usually keeps pretty clean with the occasional buff with a polishing cloth. I've never fancied a metal cover on electrickery though!

They usually fit over the original lid so nowhere near the electrics

If you have the stainless engraved or laser etched Dawn you will be able to polish it when needed without fear of damaging the lettering.

I wouldn't know where to start with that Andy! The idea of sign writing it on only came as I work with a lady whose hubby is a traditional sign writer lol!

I know someone on FB had it done, it might even be Cliff, but it was very, VERY expensive! As I am laid off for 3 weeks I wouldn't afford what that person paid at the moment.

I'm sure you could find a trophy engraver or even a cobbler who would do it fairly cheap.

I don't know how well it would key to stainless but i would guess if you give it a good clean with solvent before painting a coat of lacquer would mean a wipe clean surface.

+1 for this.

Rustins used to do a clear lacquer used for external door furniture. Was quite hard wearing, and brushed on, dried smooth. But if you were to go with a lacquer, it would have to be compatible with the sign writer's paint.
