  1. Open the bonnet.
  2. Identify the plastic acoustic cover with the 'Rover V6' label on it.
  3. Using an 8mm socket, remove the two fixing screws.
  4. Lift off the cover.
  5. You'll now have a good view of the two inlet manifolds, each of which comprises three silver metal pipes.
  6. Shine the beam of a powerful torch betwen these pipes towards the engine. Do you see any pink powder or puddles of pink liquid lurking beneath?

I'll give that a try in the morning.

Isn't that a bit unusual for a KV6? Do you know what the stat rating is? (they're normally 88C). Have you fitted a 'special'?

Yeah mine usually sits around 88-90 unless in traffic or going slow, never went over 101 though....

Default KV6 engine temp

In response to T-Cut, yes, I thought it was a bit low as before the stat change I don't think it ever ran under 88, but I did have a slight leak from the old stat so I couldn't be sure what it was really doing. The new stat was one of the re-inforced ones from DMGRS and I didn't look too closely at it before it was fitted so not sure of the rating. Engine seems to run very happily though as cambelts were done at same time and it definitely feels smoother than before.

Yes that's the minimum a V6 should run at. They're typically several degrees warmer.

By reinforced I guess you mean with a modified/resin bandaged seam around housing? If so, that in itself wouldn't affect the running temperature, but since it's a different stat from before, it's clearly opening at a somewhat lower temperature.
