Default Engine type confused.

.?? What is the difference between a M47 and a M47R, would the same type of clutch do for the both of them.

Cheers.

You either buy a clutch for a Rover 75 diesel or a Freelander TD4 diesel, don't buy based on engine type

I might take a look at the part numbers later for you

M47 is the BMW engine designation, M47R is the one used in the 75 and ZT.

BMW purposely derated the M47R so that BMW cars didn't have a power delivery equivalent in the Rover range.

More importantly BMW road tested the then new Bosch common rail technology on the M47R, just in case it didn't work as well as expected.

They actually did us all a favour derating the engine as it ended up far more reliable than the M47 - no swirl flaps to break up and fall into the cylinders, and a longer lasting turbo.
