Axle Stands or Ramps
I need to either buy Axle Stands and a Trolley Jack or Ramps.
Having never really used either, which would be the safest? I like the Ramps idea better, but I am struggling to find some to fit a 225 wheel, at a reasonable cost. Simon

Depends on if you need to get the wheels off ! If you need to be doing anything to brakes, steering, suspension etc. ramps are of no use.

To DIY service any car properly, you really need ramps and axle stands. There are jobs that can't be done right without one or other.
You can buy slow rise ramps to take care of the front overhang. Or you can make a wooden approach ramp to fit ahead of the standard ramp riser. Or you can make your own like I did. A couple of scaffold planks are a good starting point. I feel much safer working under the car on ramps, but there are jobs where stands are the safest way to work. Placing stands under these cars requires thought. It's not that easy and there aren't many good places to locate them. See this: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=11745 and this: Sorry can't find it. There was a discussion thread on HowTo put these cars on axle stands but it seems to have gone. (??) a trolley jack would be best .then its all down to what work you will be doing at the time ..

All you need is some scrap wood and five minutes.
These took about five minutes. I'm sure that if you took a bit longer you could make a much better set.
