Hi All

Does any member do stone chips and small repairs, or know of any one that does, I would have a go my self but if I get it wrong could work out expensive.

There is a how to done by member empsburna but you need the right tools to make it look good, I will be attacking some of mine tomorrow and may take some pics

I had a pdf of the How to..... so I have sent it to a Mod who can achieve the desired results. This may not happen until after the National due to organisational time required. But, it will be done

Trebor did you have a go at your stone chips? If you did did you take any pictures???.

I found some good footage on YouTube about repairing Stone Chips I see if I can find it and put it on here.

yes I attacked my bonnett road rash last weekend and was very pleased with the results, some pictures below:

next make sure the area is clean so wash and clay



get your touch up pen and a few bottle tops and cocktail sticks, dont use the brush that comes with the touch up pen else you will put too much paint on and will struggle to get it off

Mix your paint and lacquer around the 50/50 mark, I find that a better mix is about 75/25 as it stays workable longer, you wont need much so use a bottle top and dont waste your paint




once you have carefully filled the chip using the cocktail stick , let it dry and then flat it off with very fine wet and dry, I use these which i got from Autobrite and are self adhesive, you can use them dry but will get through a lot of pads so better with water but dont go mad







Its a bit scary doing this as it leave scratches on the paint which now have to be polished out



Using a professional polisher, pads and polish, moisten the pad first with some detailer





I used 3m Ultrafina polish to start which is the least abrasive, you dont need much polish on the pad, dab it on the paintwork from the pad, and start up the polisher on a slow speed to start then speed it up







I had to use the more aggressive 3m fast cut polish to completely get rid of the marks but mixed it with some Ultrafina to tone it down a bit





and finally a picture of the same part of the bonnett less the rash, there is still some dust in the picture but a massive improvement



It took me ages to do the rash as there were literally hundreds of small chips, but if you only have one or two chips its a lot quicker obviously
