Angry Stopped by the Police Today

Driving to the meet on the M5 just a mile short of exit 5 for the meeting and blue lights flashing headlights, cruise on set at 68 MPH, no idea why being pulled.

So over he comes,

Police, "Do you have your documents with you?"
Me, "no"
Police, "step into the car please.

So I leave my three passengers two of which are in their late 70's. In the car and here we go.

"Is that you vehicle"
"yes"
"you are not insured"
"yes I am"
"look here on the screen you have not been insured since 27/01/12.
"sorry officer but that information is incorrect"
"it is the police database and is correct, you are not insured, do you not check your monthly statements.
"it is insured, yes I do check them and the insurance was paid in full not monthly"
"you do realise we shall now seize your car and you will be issued with a summons to appear in court as you have broken the law, haven't you!
"we haven't established that I have broken the law (innocent until guilty hmmm) and I have two elderly people in the car.
"we won't leave you on the motorway when your car is towed you will be taken to the nearest train station for transport home.

"HUH" is the real?

Let me call Aviva and clear this up, I say,
"Sunday they will be closed"
"don't think so I say let me try"
"but you do realise you have no insurance and your car is GOING to be seized shortly, because you are breaking the law, AREN'T YOU

The other officer (good cop), says call Aviva and the call goes in.

Aviva faff about for what seems an age.

"this doesn't look good does it, turns to good cop, best call in for the tow truck".

Again I insist I am insured 100%

Aviva girl comes back, "Mr Jones is fully insured, the insurance expires Jan 2013"

Bad cop is dumb struck, "you are free to go on your way"

No apology, no concern for elderly passengers. It spoils the day for may father in law at nearly 80 it did stress him whilst I was sat in the back of this police car for over 30 minutes, we ended up leaving the meet early as he had wound himself up over it and wanted to go home.

It was only later I realised that I was nothing short of bullied and intimidated by the one police office with him repeatedly telling me I had broken the law "haven't you" and you will now appear in court because what I did is wrong, "isn't it" and your car will be seized at great expense to me.

Yet 100% innocent, their database not up to date

If I go on Rimmers site and put my reg in it brings my car details through, yet the police system fails this simple task

So wrong. I feel a complaint coming on.

"P7 FVE" isn't on the MID, which means you are going to get pulled over a *lot* by any ANPR equipped car... Good idea to talk to Aviva about it!

Perhaps the officer hoped he could "crack" you and took it a little too far?

Don't go quietly Parker, complain. If they are allowed to think this can go without any form of apology it will happen again. Did you get his number?

I would definitely put in a complaint. Must have been awful. Have you tried entering your reg number on the MID.com website. See if that shows up if you're insured or not. If it doesn't then phone Aviva and ask why you are not entered on the database, before it happens again

Angry

You can't make it up.... and they wonder why respect is slipping for the police.
No question.....put in a complaint about his attitude AND database mis-information

I wonder why they were checking up on you anyway ?
Are they in fact allowed to carry out random searches ?
