Default Car will open but not lock

Hi. After my first Rover 75 died I got round to buying an MG ZT saloon. Loving it but there are a few things need sorting. First is that the key fob will open the car, sometimes all the doors sometimes just the drivers. It wont lock any though. The light flashes but nothing. I end up locking all the doors from inside getting out and locking drivers door by the key. Not the end of the world but I'm hoping to keep it awhile so would like to sort it.

Many thanks

Hi, the first thing to try is the cheapest too - grease all the lock components and get them working freely and see if that sorts it. The fob unlocks the doors sequentially - one press unlocks the drivers, a second opens the front passenger, and a third and fourth each of the back doors. Locking should all happen at once.

Have you tried the key fob re-sync - press the padlock symbol 4 times to re-sync it to the car -worth a try.

If your car does that then you've got some failing actuators! There are only 2 ways that the remote fob can unlock the doors. It is a T4 option called Single Point Entry. Either 1 press unlocks all doors. Or 1 press unlocks the drivers door, then the 2nd press unlocks the remaining doors.

Tried the 4 press on the padlock but nothing happened. Could be me doing it wrong.
As for the locks, all lock and unlock no problem using the internal button aat the handbrake. No sticking or some not working they all lock and unlock. Same with the unlock on the fob they all unlock ok. Wonder if a T4 check maybe needed?
Thanks for the replies though

PM Big Russ at Liversedge nears Huddersfield - has a T4 and is a key expert.
