Default Rear springs (RM violet)

Turns out both my rear springs are broken (good spot, MoT tester) and after IDing the codes, I need a pair of violet RMs. Now RMs (RKB101431) are NLA from Rimmers and neither are their linked replacements (RKB101221SLP which were in any case 4 times more expensive).

The broken springs on my car are not OEM; someone has replaced them with aftermarkets so measuring them after removal won't necessarily help me.

These are all the specs I can find on rear springs:
Red - 280.31mm
Lilac - 234.33mm
Blue - 283.08mm
Pink - 277.54mm

My ride heights are currently 382mm and 390mm with the broken ones; I reckon they would be 395-400mm if they were in working order. So -

1) Does anyone have the OEM specs for RM violet springs, or
2) Has anyone replaced RM violets with other codes/colours?

I'd like to get the replacements to be as correct as possible. Thanks.

Dougie.

Also, this MGR Drive Bulletin from 2002 shows the effect removing the rear anti-roll bar assembly had on the rear springs. Pink/Red/Blue were superseded by White/Violet/Yellow respectively. So the replacements were upgraded springs, which means I'm not looking at the older ones (RB/RC/RD) as contenders. Click/touch the link to view the .pdf.

Here you go Dougie, order two of these

LINK

They come with the isolators fitted which are NLA, and they're suitable for diesel automatic 75 without rear ARB

I fitted a pair of these to replace broken RM lilac on the wife's facelift diesel, and also to a local members car, and they are spot on

Better than SLP or aftermarket too

No, there are not plenty on eBay unfortunately. There's only that one (used) example. There are plenty of other Rover 75 rear springs, but no RM/violet specs.

No, the link above is for an RL (white) IC-coded rear spring. I need RM (violet) springs. Or a definitive technical specification of the NLA RM (violet) spring so I can investigate an alternative.

Dougie.

Hey Brian, that's pretty informative, thank you. Someone else just linked to that RL/white spring but I had no tech spec on it to compare. So you replaced LILACS? I understood they were ZT-only*, having a much shorter length? But if you've fitted them twice and they're cool, then that goes a long way for me.

Do you happen to know the specs of the RMs and RLs?

Dougie.

*Actually incorrect. Maybe shorter because Lilac was post-ARB and was beefed up?

Just checked my files, and the ones I linked to have a coil wire diameter of 14.26mm and a free length of 260mm

The old springs (original) removed from the wife's car, had a free length of 250mm and a coil wire diameter also of 14.26.

I took the assumption that the difference in free length was probably in part due to the settling effect of 14 years of use.

These were part of a mega cheap offer Rimmers ran last year that Dave "Stocktake" alerted everyone to........£20 each plus vat.

Sadly that offer has expired, however they still represent excellent value for money, and certainly are better than buying SLP or aftermarket.

Great info, thanks. (Great record-keeping too ). The only unanswered question I have is the tech specs of the original RM/violet springs although it's pretty academic now. I'm still curious about comparing to the RL/white ones.

No worries. One of my best rugby mates is a manager, and Rimmers are only down t'road. His kettle will be on in the morning.

Info very much appreciated.

Dougie.
