MG ZT 190 - No Tachometer, Temperature Gauges, Engine fan issue
Hello all,
I would really appreciate your help on my electrical issues. My gauges recently stopped working and it seems around the same time, fan started having issues. Seeing as how I can read values from the ECU via OBD, it is leading me to believe this is a wiring issue somewhere. Any ideas? Car: 2001 MG ZT 190 (LHD) What isn't working: 1. Tachometer Gauge / Rev counter 2. Coolant Temperature Gauge 3. No AC 4. Engine fan always on at full speed (after engine start) What I have done so far: 1. Plenums check (few leaves, no water, pollen filter dry) 2. Instrument Cluster Dials check (all dials and lights work during test) 3. Connected OBD scan tool with Torque app. Able to read both the RPMs and the coolant temperature. Thanks in advance! |

Your fan is on continuously because your ECU is getting no cooling temperature readings from the sensors - its a default protection for your engine -as the ECU does not know the running temp the fan is switched on - as to your tachograph and coolant sensor not working - it may be a fuse /wiring issue but i suggest you drop MarinaBrian or Big Russ a PM for an expert opinion as it may be an ECU issue as well.

How could that be the case though? As I stated above, I can read values for coolant temp and RPMs from the ECU via an OBD scan tool. Leading me to believe ECU is getting everything just fine.

If your coolant sensor/crankshaft sensor are sending signals to the ECU but not to the gauges and assuming your ECU is dry i would suggest a Can bus or K bus wiring issue ?

The IPK isn't communicating with the ECM on the CANBUS
I would suggest unplugging the IPK and cleaning the contacts of both connectors, then reconnecting and see if this resolves your problem. However more interestingly for me at least is the fact you have a V6, and I've not known the EMS2000 to exhibit the CANBUS fault most commonly found on a batch of 1999 model year diesels of "Message Failure Instrument Pack 3" Brian |
