I Was looking at Arteons, but actually prefer the less angular look of the CC.

I might even get the 4Motion 300Bhp v6 version though, LHD only though.

There has been huge leaps forward in cars technology over the past 20 years, compare a 20 year old 320 to a new one and the difference is huge and modern diesels have probably had the biggest leaps forward.

Going from the 2.0V6 to a 190BHP diesel isnt comparing apples with apples.

I dont use mine ever day, but driving a bland daily (a sea of black and the off bit of aluminium) and then jumping into a 75 is such a lovely experience.

If i had to buy a car for me to use every day it probably would be a diesel manual 75!

Ones that didn't even come into the running were Peugeot, Renault, VW.
I'd really like another zt V6, and in many ways this would be ideal, but as a high annual mileage work car they are getting a bit old.
Just a suggestion, Honda's seem to be very reliable and with a style of their own. And without the 'BMW driver' image.

To my mind, it's no wonder it got deleted as soon as it did, as it just doesn't work.
Hit a slight incline and you're losing speed rapidly, which means the foot has to become leaden to maintain even a placid pace.
Give it a serious bit of welly, to make it kickdown a notch and you're then quickly looking at very low mpg, because the 2.0 massively lacks torque exactly where it's needed (in the 1800- 2200 band).
I go up two hills on my way to work, the first slightly steep, but short. The car bogs down and doesn't want to change down without hoofing it.
The second is a longish upwards incline.
The latter, I see Corsas wanting to overtake me, if I don't seriously hoof it.

And it just makes the drive a real pain.
Whereas I can climb the same hills with much less throttle in the Beemer, with it showing 30mpg plus.

Generally gaining speed feels sluggish, although it's fine once I'm up to 70.
Drop to 60 and it feels like the same rigmarole (don't press the throttle too much, as you know it's going to kill the 30 mpg economy).
And yes, the engine is all good and well maintained.
It's no co-incidence that the 2.5 is hardly any worse, juice-wise, imo.

I just bought the wrong combination

Goodies-wise, I totally agree. The Rover compares very well, even today.

As for the ride, I'm simply not seeing/feeling it.
The Beemer is easily as comfortable and generally more so.
Maybe I'm happier to accept less in return for the massivly improved driveability?
I doubt it, tbh.

I quite fancied a 335 (old Porker type performance!) or 330, but decided against. Far too juicy, but probably still on a par with my Rover.
You should drive my MG ZT-T
I have upset quite a lot BMW owners.
All they see on the back is CDTI

However I do like BMW's, I saw the other day a brand new 750, it was utterly gorgeous but way out of my price range.

Absolutely agree, if you can find one that is affordable , most are within the Honda dealership network and are very expensive for the age, however no car brand more reliable, but be aware when they go wrong, parts are very expensive, the Accord tourer is one of my favourites, diesels are best, watch the sunroof for rust, check before buying, need a full, and I mean a full main dealer service history, or WALK AWAY.

Engineering is a good thing for sure, but this car is truly ugly, clearly the designer has little appreciation of the finer things in life, looks are very important, that doesn't do it for me, see an Alfa Romeo Giulia for inspiration, I urge you for your mortal soul. Function is always good, but form... form is always better, much better.

Also ask an owner what happnes when the car has done about 100k? The injector wiring loom on the diesels runs in hot oil inside the cam cover, this breaks down the insulation on the wire and a new loom is needed

Default German Car Drivers

Anyone know why German car drivers do not understand road signs i.e 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 mph!
