Had a better look at the rust on the body around the front jacking points and I realise that the body has been caught (presumably by a tyre fitters deep jack cup in the past) around the edges of the rubber. Folks need to take care when using those jacks as the rubber pad is only thin and can only take the weight via the reinforced section of the sill by using a flat surface. I wonder how many others have been distorted/damaged, then rusted in the same way? I've read about using an ice hockey puck with those jacks to avoid a similar problem on "modern" cars. I shall be looking for a good mig/tig welder person in my area sometime soon! My arc welder will probably just blow holes in bodywork!!! Such a shame as the rest of the car looks great.

That looks lovely, do you know when the belts were changed?

If not....I would get them done asap.

My MOT man is "migging" as I type. He's doing the welding and priming, then I'm doing the filling and painting to bring her back to glorious (hopefully)! I've bought plenty of Bilt Hamner products so shall be putting the odd hole here and there to get the 360 degree lance in to prevent any further tin worm developing. With blank grommets in the holes, it makes them easy to give access for wax/paint drowning by simply removing the grommet and inserting the lance. I've done all the hollow suspensions and bodywork on my Conny and it seems to have done a good job so far.

Just collected and I'm very happy. A nice thick, wide plate to the jacking points, so no worries about those large cups on the tyre fitters jacks. I've just ordered some rubber pads to fit onto them for belt and braces. Back to touching up, cleaning and fettling once the weather warms up.
