Sadly John, X Part don't always seem to know what their Centres or Dealers are telling the customer. According to X Part centres there is a problem, which means that for the customer there is a problem.

There is a growing number of threads/posts touching on this issue. It would be good to see X Part sort it.

I was referring to an earlier post from XPart and the availability including the alleged 190 exhaust shortage, when there is plenty.
Why do these dealers not enquire or chase up correctly?
Most Strange.

I went to a local auto parts place to get a quote for my rear box for my salon and they informed me it would be £55. Not bad I thought..

I asked them the make. They happened to have one in stock and it has a MG Rover label on it. So that's a MG Rover original from a non xPart center for £55 + VAT.

Spoke with Rimmers about 190 back boxes...which they prominently advertise in their catalogue....no they don't have any and no they don't know when (if!) they will be getting any...presumably they are supplied by Xpart too?

With back boxes being difficult to source we will have to use other back boxes. Is this something we have to declare on insurance? I hope not, as it isn't our fault.

If you don't install a OE or equiv then yes you will if you policy states that you must.

Sorry JDC, this is exactly why I mentioned my story on the forum.

Getting your hands on ‘a’ back box is not the problem. The problem only occurs when you ask for a genuine double skinned Rover back box. You can order back boxes at X-Parts, but these are probably aftermarket boxes with a X-Part sticker. Not double skinned, but single, and that's one of the reasons why these boxes make more noise. And that was something I did not want. A helpful dealer has investigated at X-Parts France what the status is around back boxes for the KV6 mend for the 75. Double skinned originals will not be supplied anymore, all after marked boxes, Bosal, Romal and Walker can be delivered, however most of the time they are in back order, and you have no choice of brand when you order one.

The second reason for me wanting a original Rover box is that I have heard several stories of people with bad experiences with the after marked boxes. Walker what for some reason is widely supplied in Germany for the 75 is known for resonation problems some people have to fit two or even three to get satisfied with the sound. However there are also some people who have a Walker fitted with no problems.

I am mot saying that it is al bad, just be aware when you need a new back box there could be an issue with resonation, and more noise. Original Rover back boxes are more expensive that after market ones, but I think in this case that’s the proven quality of the original part.

The third reason why I wanted an original Rover box was that during my search and hunting for my back box I was told by several ex. Rover dealers that the original box last very long compared to others. Some of them have only fitted just a couple new ones on a 75. And others claim they do not more than 10 KV6 75-boxes a year.

Rob.
