Could it be a stone or nail in the tyre tread?

Did you have new hand brake shoes fitted?

I bet it's stone in tyre, I have a pea shingle driveway and this sound is a regular on my car. Take it through a few bends fast, [ spreads the tread and gets rid of the stones] Dave

just been out to car , jacked it up and turned wheels by hand ,no sound from passenger side rear, but when i went round to drivers side and did the same,i noticed when i turnd the wheel ,it got to a certain point and the brake shoe just lifted slightly and then droped back down and the two metle survices just clanked together , i thought that perhaps its because the disks and pads are new and they will wear in at some point,or is it something more?

I strip the caliper off and run a steel straight edge over the disk to see if there is a high point. If it is that you should be able to see it if the movement is as violent as you describe.
