Default Parking fines + 3 points.

I've noticed in the local press that some selfish illegally parked motorists have been handed £100 fines plus 3 penalty points by Derbyshire police.I've never seen points given along with parking fines before. Is this new or has it always been an option?

Multiple drivers were fined in the Peak Distict after parking up on a road with double white lines down the middle forcing other motorists to cross the white lines to pass them.

HERE is the latest one

I suspect the fines were not to do with the parking as such but more to do with an alleged obstruction causing other drivers to possibly cross the white lines. A Road Traffic offence?

Parking prohibition is enforced by local councils who issue a PCN and the police who will issue a endorsable Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) and will incur 3 penalty points on the offenders licence. As parking on white zig zag lines puts pedestrians at risk, police will almost always issue a FPN without exceptions.
Here's the letter of the law the if driver is parked on the approach to a pedestrian crossing

Time it was enforced much more. Especially around school run times, selfish drivers caring only for their own needs cause hazards and hold ups day on, day out. Naturally, those who digress near Pelican crossings etc on the roads should suffer likewise.

The linked case is a PC30 endorsable offence 3 points for contravention of pedestrian crossing regulation with stationary vehicle.

There are pleny of offences that can be 'awarded' points. In other cases of poor parking an MS10 'Leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position' carries a 3 point endorsement as well.

An yes the Police can also issue parking fines although in practice I suspect (IANAL) that this would be limited to public roads and be road traffic offences like parking in a no-waiting zone or on a clearway or similar.
