There are still Range Rovers out there...

Yeh, but you'd want RR on it. My Dad's got RR54 MUD on his sport

todays pop stars and footballers have no taste or style so thank heavens for that, they can carry on crashing their bling boxes while leaving our beloved 75 and zt s alone.

The registration number ROV 1 is unlikely to be owned by a former director of MG Rover Group because if they had owned it, it would have been used for publicity photographic purposes. This registration number was first issued in 1959 and would have likely adorned a Rover P4 - ROV 11 is another registration that adorns a P4. I am guessing that it is owned by a loyal Rover enthusiast who has transferred it from a classic Rover (for whatever reason) onto a newer example.

MG Rover Group owned the cherished registration 2 ROV which they used on publicity shots for the then Rover 75 Vanden Plas and later Limousine registered on the Press fleet. In October 2002 I actually roadtested the Vanden Plas sporting this registration number - a Royal Blue example with Sandstone interior.

Another consideration for photoshoot requirements is that the owners of cherished registration numbers will often 'loan' their registration to a manufacturer to be used for such purposes. Sometimes the 'loan' can extend to the car actually being legally road registered with that plate; I have no idea how this arrangement works with the DVLA.

Land Rover Group has for a number of years owned the cherished registration number LR 1 which adorns a Range Rover used for official purposes involving the Chairman/Chief Executive.

I hope this is of use.

I remember seeing 2 ROV several times. Would be nice to have ROV 1 & 2 ROV together.

I agree, although the problem is who now actually owns 2 ROV? Clearly it has no use with the current custodians of the remains of MG Rover Group, and I don't know if they actually own it as one of the assets of the former MG Rover Group company. The registration number is not currently allocated to a particular vehicle, according to the DVLA's website.

I would love to know what its current ownership status is, purely from the perspective of it being an interesting 'addition' to Rover promotional material.

I saw ROV 3R the other day, on a silver ZT-T IIRC, may have been a 75 tourer
