Bentley is Back
I had some issues with the suspension it was riding extremely soft, sat in the back was a bit like being on a trampoline when I took the car to Weston the other week, actually being in the front was not much better.
The suspension on these cars is a nightmare, based on a Citroen system of hydraulics, it turns out the gas struts had failed on both sides; actually the one side failed and with the weight of the car this forced the other to go soon after (they were quite old Bentley informed me). To top it all this system is all computer regulated by a system introduced late 80's, so technology has moved on somewhat since then So some £800 later the car is truly gliding along now as you would expect, I suspect they had been failing for a little while as the smoothness of the ride now even over our lovely rough country roads is exceptional and better than I can ever remember whilst driving the car Next week my long awaited appointment to have the bonnet and scuttle panel repainted gets underway. Once this is completed in a week or so that should be it, the body work all done, underside treated complete already. Happy Bunny today

Glad you have got the suspension problem finally sorted Parker, I bet the Bentley now drives like a new car. Once the bonnet is completed, you will have to post up some pics.

My RS6 has a similar setup, Fluid filled shocks controlled by a computer that you can adjust at your leisure.
One side strut has burst leading to a floppy ride and its looking like £1100 just to replace one shock and regas the system. I orginally wanted to replace both rears but that takes it upwards of around £1700

Gosh expensive, so much cheaper to run a Bentley. In my case if one side goes then best change both sides, which I did.
That's the problem with classics etc, not cheap but I guess you know that in advance.

I've just forked out, sorry been ripped off with £760 plus for replacing rear upper arm bushes on the Jaguar XF after failing the MOT.
But watch this space as 3 other MOT stations plus around 50 folk I've spoken to say the parts removed from my car do not constitute a fail. |
