When i started driving the road tax was for ongoing roads upkeep by and large, not based on what comes out of your exhaust tailpipe. It seem from what i have read,be that information correct or not , that the bulk of the road tax collected goes towards new road projects. Leaving local authorities with the job of funding the bulk of the costs for road repairs . So up goes your council tax yet again ..
