Default Dash feeds t4 guys maybe

HI does anyone know where the dash gets its rpm sense and temp sensing for the engine from?.
is it pure can or is it from the ecu's obd connection?
on another question is the latter spec 620ti wasted spark ecu obd 2 compliant or can it at least talk the same language as the mems 3 does to the rover 75 speedo cluster?

Thanks

Can't answer the second part of your question but if you've lost rev counter and the temperature guage then I would be checking the plenum for water first

No i have not lost anything yet (well hopefully never), just have some engine mods coming up starting the end of the month and need to decide if i pay loads for having the 1.8t ecu remapped to try and run the engine or use the rover ecu that will run the engine but was never fitted to a zt,
i am just hoping that the dash maybe backwards compatible to a small point, as in enough to run the rev counter and temprature guage.

Thanks

That information is transmitted over the can-bus system from the engine management ecu to the ipk.

And the specific error message is "CAN Message failure Instrument Pack 3"

If it is the OP's diesel car that is being talked about, his DDE4 ECM is faulty, and the only cure is replacement

If not than I'll get my coat

Am I right in thinking you are thinking of fitting a T series to an R40?

Best of luck with wiring up a MEMS 1.6, or MEMS 1.9 into the system

Yes i am .

the wiring is of no real worry at all to me as i can easilly build a engine only loom, i just need to get the dash board to register rpm's, temp, and oil p, and alt.
the only thing i can think of doing is to piggy back the 1.8t ecu over the top of the t series setup so it can monitor all the sensors and feed back to the cars can bus, the engine would run on mems 3 with a few mods, but by the time i got the car taken up to to be remapped and the cost of a remap just to get it to the 200bhp mark is not really worth it, the factory t16 ecu can fuel upto near 18psi with the boost cut removed which is near 250bhp depending on mods, my engine is built to what should be a safe 300+bhp so out of the box running 250 for no real money is better than the cost of tuning mems 3, for the same cost to make the most of the engine spec standalone management would be better?.

its a shame noone has built a analogue to digital canbus adaptor to allow the use of non standard ecu's to run on the system

Thanks
