Default Pinch Bolt Started to Round off - Advice Please :)

Got the dreaded pinch bolt to turn about 1/4 of one turn and then it started to round off. So I stopped.

The problem is, I can't find a 15mm bolt extractor without paying mega-money for a set I'm not going to use.

Will a Sealey Walldrive do the job?

Get a small butane torch and heat the threaded end of the bolt for five mins, leave for another five mins then soray with penetrating oil, then work the bolt tightening then loosening and it will come out, use a good six sided socket too.

And add into that, make sure the bolt is actually turning, and not just winding up torsionally

Gav, get a pair of lump hammers, place one on the hex end of the bolt and give the threaded end a good bop.

Now repeat but in reverse, you can be a little more "vigourous" with the hex end of the bolt

Give it a good dousing in penetrating oil, go and make yourself a cuppa, then come back to it, and follow Trikey's advice about heating and working the bolt.

Patience is the key, I normally prepare a couple of weeks in advance with penetrating oil, but you'll be fine

Get the Irwins out I wouldn't be without mine, I borrowed a set off my neighbouring garage one night and was so impressed I bought the company........................well a set of their "Bolt Grip" sockets anyway & they've pulled me out the effluent on many occasions

Is this the pinch bolt at the bottom of the strut?

Assuming it is, when I had to tackle mine, I was afraid of damaging the strut hydraulics with the heat so stopped a bit short. Is heat there not a problem?

I ended up undoing the other pinch bolt and taking off the hub and strut instead, when doing the strut top bearing.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

If you have rounded the bolt off Repo, you can file the flats to the next socket size down.

Did that after breaking an impact socket on the pinch bolt. Took around 15 minutes and then, as mentioned, with a fair bit of localised heat (it had already had a good beating with the lump hammer ) finally got the bolt out.
