pre MOT check of handbrake
I have been unhappy with the operation of my handbrake for sometime.
Each time I applied it the handbrake lever came to rest at a different position, 3clicks, 4 clicks & even 5 clicks Investigating by stripping & inspection it was found that the actual handbrake shoes friction materials were cracked & a piece was missing! Also that brake disc drum had quite a groove in it where the shoe applied. So the whole lot was renewed, both sides, discs shoes & brake pads Result, I now have a handbrake which engages nicely at 3 clicks. Forum info was helpfull Moral of the tale? if adjustment fails then its strip, clean, inspect, renew as with all things mechanical Problem was that I also found both rear springs on my Tourer were broken at the bottom end, so more expenditure and renewed---busy day! Incidentaly the springs removed were colour coded green/orange and a lot lighter in spring section than I expected, certainly poor in comparision to the springs fitted to my old Rover P6V8s, which never broke! |
