![]() I have an intermittant problem in that when turning the key for my 2.0 CDT it just goes click and the lights dim momentarily and the starter motor does not engage. Its not battery as it usually starts after a couple of 'attempts' with no problems and there is plenty of power in the battery. Today it took about 10 goes before it fired up and then it started with no problems the next two times - frustrating

![]() Hi, what lights dim? I guess you mean the dash lights? Have you had the battery tested? If you have, then it could be a faulty starter motor..

![]() Yeah, dash lights dim, radio goes tomute and fans stop - but there seems pleanty of power in the battery. I would have thought that if it were the battery, it would always struggle to turn the engine over but it has no problems once it gets past this issue.

![]() Your battery has a bad connection somewhere. Could be the pillars need cleaning or the earth to chassis. Ditto.

![]() Or it could indeed be a starter motor/solenoid fault.
Simon.

![]() Thanks for advice guys - Actually Stocktake: you responded to someone with a similar issue and posted this "If you mean that the engine does not turn over when you turn the ign key, then it is almost certainly the starter motor solenoid. Kit available from ebay for around £15 delivered and under an hour to fit."
I went to ebay and found this item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2508627504...84.m1439.l2649 The links from this were very helpful and described my symptoms to a tee. Purchased at £9.95 (complete with fitting instructions) and fitted fairly easily. Now working perfectly (so far). The moral is that all the answers are probably here - you just have to look for them! |
