There's usually more to these cases than the sensationalized stories in some papers and on forums.

https://www.yorkshirecoastradio.com/...ugs-says-rnli/

I am guessing that a lot more facts will come out in the future.

I also always donate to the RNLI and hold the volunteers in high regard, but will reserve judgment until the full facts are known.

It would be interesting to hear from our female members with young children whether they would object to what has been reported if they had taken their 5-10 year olds to the RNLI station and the kids had noticed the mugs.

I am reserving judgement until the full or real facts are known, but as a Governor of the RNLI for many years I hope it is not being as stupid as would appear.

with the amount of open sexual content on TV and all the other media, the routine obscene language and behavior in public life and "sex education" in school there is no need to reserve judgement. It is what it is the liberal fascists at work. Chris.S.

Wasn't this about a member of the lifefboat crew taking the boat out without a official instruction to take it out, or was that a different crew? I remember the crew were filmed last week on the Scarborough harbour front, sitting outside a cafe I often go to when there..

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

RNLI.

What a palaver! The Sun – who believes it anyway? They even get football scores wrong after the final whistle!

Famous (infamous?) for exactly what they are reporting! Published mock-ups of mugs so no evidence yet produced! I think we know who the mugs are!

Mugs kept in cupboard! No disciplinary interview! Summarily dismissed by phone! What price employment law? The foregoing as stated by RNLI so presumed accurate. Why?

Hints at more serious misbehaviour concerning Discrimination and (current buzzword) Bullying. Use of capitals deliberate as these impostors are now capital offences that have moving definitions that can’t be proven because it’s a matter of individual interpretation.

All, I mean all, of it, is irrelevant. The point is the climate change is social, not climactic! These activities, by the employer in this case, are a result of busybodies with nothing to do but impose trumped up ‘offences’ because we are not polite enough to say nothing when stupidity takes the helm. So, august bodies like the RNLI and so many other worthy organisations feel bound to mimic the stupidity they are supposed to copy at great cost and no benefit. It is the system that is being criticised – not the employer.

Based on what we know so far, I would have read the actions of the RNLI management as no more than their views on the actions required to discharge their "duty of care" to the younger members of society who may visit their stations.

Not directed specifically at the above, but there is something creepy about those who want to inflict their kind of liberal lifestyles and values on others. By that, I mean wanting to see others and others' youngsters to be exposed to things that many in society would find unacceptable for their own.

Individuals can always purchase such mugs for us at home if they find the practice acceptable.

Oh dear. In the news today another estimable volunteer falls foul of excessive zeal of middle management struggling to satisfy their seniors’ insistence on fashionable trends.

Tom Clark, MBE, volunteer for 34 years and with a totally unblemished record of service, has been sacked as Coxswain by Scarborough station managers. His ‘offence’ was an exercise that was cleared in advance by the relevant authorities.

Whatever transpires as a result of this travesty, there is now growing disincentive for future volunteers to put their lives on risk to save others. If what he did was to so seriously contravene the operating rules you wonder if dismissal was the best or only means of disciplinary action.

There is also a rarely mentioned factor in all this.
Many coastal towns have very strong communities, a feature of which is volunteers for this service. Matters of pride and social cohesion are in danger of drying up on the altar of fashionable and unnecessary innovations to the detriment of local communities, which of course could eventually lead to a shortage of volunteers. What price progress.

Thanks - that was the other similar case I had heard mentioned, so similar that I thought the two might have been one.

The Scarborough one came out on our local (Yorkshire) news possible 10 days ago.

[EDIT] yes it was 10th April - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-43715889.

There is a petition here - https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitio...ime=1523447465

Like you I am absolutely astounded at the way these people are being treated. What is the world coming to?
