Default RNLI sack two Lifeboatmen

According to reports they had a couple of saucy tea mugs that a female boss in Whitby found.

They have been dismissed on “safeguarding” grounds as children visiting the Life Boat Station could have found the mugs.

It seems four other Lifeboatmen have resigned in protest.

Reports are in the Metro, Sun and Mail - probably others as well but I only checked out a few.

It seems total PC overkill to me.

There is a petition in support of the two sacked Lifeboatmen apparently - but I can not find it - if anyone can find it an post a link to it I would be most grateful.

Sounds more like a power trip than anything PC.

May well be - but overly harsh it would seem to me.

How many lifeboat crew are now operational at the Whitby station?

And how does that affect the life saving service the lifeboat provides?

Priorities??????

Andy.

Obviously a jobs worth, why couldn't she ask for the mugs to be removed, those guys do such a good job I always donate though, I firmly believe the RNLI should be government funded.

These people are heroes.
No way to treat heroes.
I hope the people of Whitby come to their support

Unfortunately the 38 Degrees team have had to take down this petition as we believe it may break our terms and conditions, and it revolves around a live employment dispute.
We do not host petitions that may infringe upon employment rights, for example calling on someone in a non-elected position to be sacked, or attempting to sway the decisions of employment tribunals with public opinion.

There’s something creepy about those who seek to ‘safeguard’ everyone else by objecting or finding fault with what others merely ignore if they don’t like it.

It’s as though the ‘safeguarders’ assume some exalted worthy duty because we are unable to look after ourselves. Even as if the rest of us who wouldn’t turn a hair at most things somehow need protecting from each other.

It’s not that the practice is patronising, it’s because it’s an attempt to gain control by pathetic non-achievers. As a result, the lifeboat service there has now reached nil operational capability. They probably get a tick in a box.
