Road noise can be a subjective thing. New Zealand has a lot of coarse chip road surface, so either way I'm going to get lots of road roar.
Since your second 75 has Unions you won't be needing mine .
So what you reckon Roger - you're familiar with both alloys - given the extra road noise shall I go for the Meteors or stick with my unions?

Yeah, the Star Spokes look good. I reckon they suit the Mk.II.

A tyre's profile is 55% of the width. So 215/50s would have the same profile height as 225/45s. The 215/50s being a narrower tyre would have less road roar - so the theory goes.

Some argue the 75 is in the 5-series class. I reckon the 75 was intended to be a 3-series warrior based on tyres. A 5-series fitted with 16" wheels is tunned for 215/55 or 225/50 tyres. The bigger tyres mean the car can take 18-19" alloys without losing too much profile. The 75 tyres are in line with the 3-series class.

The poll is flattening. The Unions are on 52% vs. Meteors on 42%.

I've asked my friends 'n family the same question - surprise surprise - they all prefer the unions .

Actually I made a balls up. Our old car has Crown, not Union. What sort of money are you looking for Nick?
On the subject of looks, I have to say that your model probably looks better with the Union - which is why I may be interested in buying them! I like thr Meteor on mine though. They give the car a 'stand out' feature for some reason. I notice that people take a long hard look at it and wonder if it's the car or the wheels they are looking at. Often I think they're trying to see what brand of car it is, as there are so few of them on the road here.

Re money; I've no idea @ this stage. The Walkworth people claimed they'd get back to me this Friday (today!) once they had a full set together. So it really depends what they would offer me for a trade in on the unions. Not much I'd imagine.
The thing is my two front tyres are getting very worn so either way I've to act soon. Either get new tyres for the Unions or buy the meteors.

Cleaning isn't a big deal for me. Sure the Unions take a bit more time to clean, but that's ok. Not reason enough to ditch them.

50% Unions vs. 45% Meteors.... it's a nail biter.

Union support is waning. And the alloys aren't fearing to well either .
