I drive the cdti with extra bit of bhp. Its a relaxing car to drive, can stay in 5th gear from 30mph upwards. Very little need to change down and quite easy to overtake lorries etc with a punch of torque from 50 mph upwards.

Suspension still impressive even now, just not as quiet as the newer cars

The happy memories-I grew up being ferried around in my parents 75 Connoisseurs (first a saloon, then a tourer).

The lovely leathery smell and feeling of “waft” are pretty good, too; it’s completely the opposite end of the scale to my Elise.

I like the way it sticks to the road like its glued on and having just rebuilt the Injector pump it really has some extra power unknown to me before the rebuild, never driven one from new but it must close.

With family living away up in the North East I was casting an eye around for something comfortable to waft away the miles.

SWMBO's Mazda2 is an awesome car. Sum total of non service items in 7 years and about 70K - one brake pedal switch . But it's not the greatest place to be for 3+ hours up the M1/A1.

To my surprise a 75 came up as a comfortable mile eater. Wasn't even in my head. I was thinking more Mazda 6/Mondeo/Avensis/Passat.

Found this most superb forum with it's unbelievable amount of knowledge and support. Particularly the "what to look for when buying one."

Found my first - a Copperleaf diesel saloon from a member on here. One fastidious owner with a shed load of paperwork. Absolutely wonderful car. Comfy, quiet and a lovely place to be. Economical to run and I introduced myself to the Midland Nano's. OMG what a team. I was now well and truly hooked.

Ran beautifully, did everything asked of it and then Quizzie came along. Fine when she was a small puppy but not practical as she got older.

Had a dalliance with a Passat estate. Perfectly decent car but just wasn't a 75. Cold/clinical/efficient/effective/soulless.

I'm now on my sixth (I think ) with my latest one being a Conny SE with all the lovely leather. She was just too good to miss

It's the comfort and the surroundings and the classic lines and the simple practicality and the whole part of being something lovely and decent with all the genuinely nice folks on here.

What after her if not another one - I have no idea .

Thanks for all the interesting comments. Especially the poem.

Another thing I love in the CDT is the fact that while I can amble along comfortably, I can also put the foot down and build up speed fairly rapidly (within the limits!). I think it takes some other road users by surprise but then again I may be thinking too highly of myself

I have driven a fair few cars in my 12 years on the road and they've all been cars with smaller engines and less comfort!

I posted this a while back in a similar thread but it's just as applicable ...

I've strayed from the path a few times but i've always found you get great levels of equipment on a bit of a shoestring budget and dammit i just have a bit of an addiction with the marque... There i've said it ... i'm an addict.
Sometimes i even manage to go cold turkey for a year or so but there is always one somewhere on the side of the road tempting me to fall off the wagon and normally i just don't have the willpower to say no!!
I don't think i can put a finger on just one thing that i fell in love with the car but if pushed i would have to say that it one of the prettiest saloon cars i can think of, or maybe how its such a nice place to be with the sumptious interior, or maybe the ride especially over long distances.
Maybe, just maybe, its just that everytime i go outside and see it sitting in my drive it puts a smile on my face because its mine

Good content to your post.----I reckon I could get a really good poem out of what you've said.--

Must give it some thought.--
