Morning all, what a wild windy night/morning, it's still chucking it down here.

Morning Phil, at the moment I'm nursing a worse than usual headache, waiting for paracetamol to do something. I had intended going to a supermarket in town to get the makings for a Mussaman curry I saw Rick Stein doing on the Good Food channel but think the menu will change as shopping will be more local.

Hmm . . . . that's slightly torpedoed the Mussaman curry. Needs to be done in the oven in a casserole dish with a lid and I have no idea where my other half has hidden them! In her bed working last night.

That is the intention at this stage Phil - a hospital-style bed is being organised for her, and visits from care-workers, Macmillan Nurses and District Nurses are being stepped up. At the moment, Angela is sleeping at Pat's home each night, but I'm not sure how long that will be practical.

If you've had sprouts chances are it'll be wet and windy indoors as well.

There is no way of knowing until Angela says she can’t manage. Ideally you need someone who can take over to give her a break, another lady, someone Pat knows and trusts for her night care. The hospital bed will be a big help and it will make a difference.

Several years ago, Jessica and myself were asked to care for a relative in the uk with end stage cancer. We moved in, did her shopping, cooking and meals. During the day, she would receive visitors and sometimes she could not face seeing them. Not all of her days were good. In the evenings I would read to her and we drank whiskey together, her favourite tipple. I gave her medication, steroids and morphine depending on the level of her discomfort

The Marie Curie nurses looked in now and again, they organised the hospital bed and commode. We looked after her in her own home for about 5 weeks until we couldn’t cope with the lifting and physical demands and it was Jessica doing the toileting and bathing. The lady was private and old school. All of her sons lived out of the UK and were not free to look after her, but they did visit. When we couldn’t cope any longer, one of them paid for her to go into a nursing home.
