Rover CDI wont start!
We have a problem. Yesterday morning, my other half, tried to start the car. Unfortunatly she could not. It was cold. What she was not aware of not waiting that little while for the yellow coil light to come off before trying to start up. Unfortunatly we have not been able to start it up since! The battery seems fine. I even got the jump leads on to make sure, allas, no joy!
Any body any ideas of how I can get it started again or what might be wrong?? Last edited by Richard and Julia; 14th December 2014 at 15:51.. |

Hi the glow plug light not really a problem with these cars ...never waited yet and had car 5 years. Do you have more than a quarter tank of fuel ...pumps can be problematic but with over a quarter tank should be ok .If low on fuel , top up and try again in first instance...hope this helps.

the plenum is a chamber between the engine bay and the inner bulkhead. Its a bit like a catch tank.
anyway your ECU for the engine is in there and the drain at the bottom of the chamber can become blocked and the tank as it were fills up with water... your ecu gets wet and all stop... if you lift the bonnet, open the scuttle grill on the drivers side ( where the brake fluid reservoir is) and shine a torch over the top of the brake master and down into the depths of the plenum (more towards the passenger side) if you can see water or tide marks and leaf litter then your ecu may have gone for a swim..... if so then there are people on here who can help you out... if you need to ask what the plenum is then you will have never cleaned the drain and this will be a real likely cause....

Hello. another common one is the UBP (Under Bonnet Fuel Pump) Its like a fat silver cigar shape to the left of the battery. Try tapping it with a screwdriver, if car fires up then you will eventually need a new one. Those are the simplest causes as with the common faults. Get back to the forum with more details, is it trying to start, just clicking or any other symptoms.
