Yep just a tractor problem Keith. The bracket that holds the EGR control valve has a habit of cracking and breaking too, which can cause the vacuum pipes to vibrate against the engine and wear through.

I am relieved to hear you managed to survive unscathed despite the ordeal. Last October, I was in a Rover 75 Tourer with Rover54 driving along the A40 Western Avenue 50-60 mph. Same thing Ravinder, brakes failed and we crashed-scraped through an RTA with the police in pursuit, they treated us like we were criminals. We stopped about 1 mile down the road from the RTA. MarinaBrian and Shiner came up with the same conclusions as to the cause. I can empathise with your fright, as it was a frightening experience. Superb driving skills saved our lives from Ed, Rover54 (banned OC member).

It’s just an issue for the dirty diesel boys, if you are replacing the pipe, it’s worth doing all of the pipes to the egr valve at the same time, it will take you 5 mins more, just ensure you use the correct pipe as some will collapse when used on this circuit if not up to the job.
Well done Bri, another good call mate 👍

Yep and if you have the same stone crusher in your Freelander, don't forget the vacuum pipe to the turbocharger.

I think I just asked for 1/4" vacuum hose.🤔 Pictures in here might show the start point of the problematic hose (well, in my case anyhow). Braided flexi to this part... https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?sha...re_pid=2463765 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bought one of these to bleed brake lines solo...
The little pump has a vacuum gauge so you can use it to pull a vacuum on the system and monitor the loss over a few minutes... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HAND-VACU...72.m2749.l2649
